Public description: This is a screenshot of a Google Trends search of the term “home abortion” on June 9, 2022. A yield of 100 represents the highest interest in the search term for the time and location specified. Prompted by the leaking of the Supreme Court opinion on Roe v. Wade, I was interested in trends in abortion-related searches since the Supreme Court agreed to hear Mississippi’s abortion ban in May 2021. The trend indicates that “home abortion,” when drawn from a random sample of Google searches, was searched the greatest number of times during the week of May 1 - 7 (the week of the leak) compared to any other week since January 2021. Notably, the searches are most clustered in states where it is difficult to access abortions. Related search queries include “texas abortion law” and “abortion pill near me.”
